Travis Hyatt & Alberto Bocus at Graduation 2005,
holding "The Bat," symbol of the authority of the President of
the History Club, which they, along with fellow Class of 2005 History
major Dan Manfrates & Class of 2005 History minors Paul Kouba &
Rich Battista, donated to the Department of History in their
freshman year, thereby creating a tradition & a legacy.
Alberto's
COURIER NEW senior
thesis was on the '90s Yankees Dynasty, while Travis expounded in his on
the post-Babe Ruth travails of the Red Sox, culminating in their shocking
& historic 2004 title. Will history repeat itself in 2005?

The numbers are in, and they don't lie. As indicated by the size of
the list to the right, the Department of History's Class of 2005 broke all
records.
Thirty new BAs in History
have entered
the world outside the gates of Manhattanville, accompanied by
thirty-one
college
graduates with
minors in
History.
THE FEW,
THE PROUD,
THE LITERATE
are not so few any more,
yet we continue to retain our traditional moniker out
of respect for our past.
More people took History courses in the past year than ever before, and
our number of majors (108)
along with
71 History
minors
represent record totals as well. Vox populi, vox Dei.

the History/Basketball tradition (see also Newsletter cover page).

graduation.

Marisa
Ruderman '05, shortly after receiving her BA in History, with honors; she minored in Mathematics. Marisa plans to continue at Manhattanville
to obtain a Master's degree in Education and certification to teach
History.
THE GREGG REIDY
MEMORIAL AWARD FUND ACHIEVES ENDOWED STATUS
Late in
2004, The Gregg Reidy Memorial Award fund achieved endowed status, meaning
it topped the ten thousand dollar amount. The award, established by
History alumni of the Class of 1998, presented annually since 2003, for
the Best Achievement in Economic History by a Graduating Senior, honors
Gregg, an Economics major & History minor. Our ultimate goal is
the amount necessary to produce a thousand dollars of interest per year. Gregg is pictured
