Manhattanville goes to Quebec

The History Department's annual field trip ventured for the first time outside of these United States and into the True North, Strong and Free, Canada, to visit Ville de Quebec, April 22-24.  Such famous historical names as Jacques Cartier & Samuel de Champlain were instrumental in its founding. though to those educated in schools in the United States, the most familiar historical event associated with the locale took place, as every schoolchild used to learn, on the "Plains of Abraham" in 1759 when British General Wolfe defeated French General Montcalm, thus determining British political control, though continuing French cultural dominance.  39 of us visited the windy La Citadelle, completed in 1831 and the Chateau Frontenec, completed in 1893 Quebec City's first steel frame building, and the site of the famous World War II conference between US President Franklin D. Roosevelt & British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.  The nearby, thundering falls of  Parc de la Chute-Montmorency provided the scene of our second and final day among the Québécois.
