FIRST ANNUAL GREGG REIDY CLASSIC 3-on-3 TOURNAMENT

The friends of Gregg Reidy '98 gathered at Kennedy Gymnasium on Sunday, April 2nd to inaugurate a new tradition.  Organized by Michael Bonavita '98, Alumni Director John Galgano '00, and Men's Head Basketball Coach Pat Scanlon '03 (all 3 BAs in History),  over 100 people, including 50+ players, the Reidy Family, and Prof. Bowling enjoyed a day of basketball, memories, fun, while raising over seven thousand dollars for Gregg's fund in the process.   We especially thank MICHAEL BONAVITA, Class of 1998, for imagining the event & bringing it to reality.   Pictured below are eight History major/minor alumni, among many others, who played.  We thank and love you all.

Officer Michael McCann, NYPD
, was down in New Orleans helping keep law & order after Hurricane Katrina.  Mike is working on a master's degree in criminal justice at John Jay, C.U.N.Y.  Mike also played in the Gregg Reidy 3on-3...Bill Cohee, writing from London, reveals that he is working for BNP Paribas ("The Bank for a Changing World") and, even more dramatically, that he finally got engaged to Gabriella after their "brief 56-month courtship."  The wedding is set for fall, 2007...Below is pictured another future historian,

, daughter of P.J. Wax III, joined the world in the summer of 2005.  P. J. is now teaching A.P. modern European history plus Honors U.S. history & civics at Fairfield (Conn.) Ludlowe H.S., where he is also Head Varsity Girls' Basketball coach & J.V. Baseball coach.

Below: some of the legends of the late 20th century gather in Manhattan at historic P. J. Clarke's saloon on the East Side: Michael Bonavita, Paul Cangro, Pete Malone, Joe Conetta, & Dennis McKenna.  Mike's greatest contribution to the History Dept. this year was creating The Gregg Reidy Classic, in which he played, along with Paul, Pete, & Joe, among
many others.  
Mike Bonavita's fame as the greatest Dallas Cowboy fan in the North reached a higher level last fall when, on a trip to see the 'Boys play in Big D, he managed to get himself on the pregame radio show, & proved so engaging that he was kept on for more than half an hour...didn't surprise us, Mike...Bridget Connors is working as Assistant to the Director of Special Events, Carnegie Hall coordinating fundraisers, & living in Tarrytown, N.Y...Ian & Amy Mackinnon became parents of a son in time to include a picture in their Christmas card.  They have bought a townhouse in West Los Angeles and adopted a rescue dog whom they are spoiling.  He is practicing law as a defense civil litigator...Marissa Pisseri received the M.P.S. at the MVILLE graduate Commencement in May...Stephanie Adler earned the M.A.T. at the 'Ville & is living in Manhattan...Letizia Moschetta, the 2005 recipient of the Gerard Thormann Award, also received her M.A.T., as did Vivian Moy, the 2004 Thormann winner...Dana Ventura is teaching history at Bronxville High School in Westchester, earned her M.A.T. as well and is set to marry in December...

John Pentangelo, 1998 Recipient of the Howard Bloomquist Award (pictured left), is the new curator &  development coordinator of the USS Constellation Museum in Baltimore, Maryland. The last all-sail warship built by the US Navy, the sloop-of-war Constellation fought the illegal slave trade off the coast of Africa, protected American interests overseas during the Civil War, and served as a practice and training ship at the United States Naval Academy and Newport Training Station respectively. John recently completed the on-board exhibition "Damn the Torpedoes! Leadership at Sea in the Civil War" to interpret the recently restored wardroom & officer's quarters...Jacquelyn Soliz is working on her Master's degree in elementary education at MVILLE...Barbara Montalvo is working for U. of Phoenix Online & has started a Master's in Secondary Ed. while still "roasting in the Sonoran desert/Phoenix metro area"...David Carpanzano has finished his  third year teaching 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th Grade Social Studies and  2nd year as Athletic Director at St. Peter's in Yonkers. He coached Boys Basketball, and Girls Varsity and JV Volleyball, which finished 1 and 2nd this year in their  league..plus, he is getting married in July, 2007...Pete Malone was promoted to Vice President at J. P. Morgan, but then left to go do underwriting at  XL Capital.  He played in the Gregg Reidy tournament, attended West Point FB Saturday, and the BBQ, loyal alumnus personified...Joey Donato is all over the internet with his dual careers as disc-spinner (or whatever the modern equivalent is) and salon owner:  see www.myspace.com/shortkutz , www.shortkutz.com , and www.myspace.com/djshortkut914 ...Scott Quintero is living in Peapack, NJ and working as a Medical Mal-practice defense attorney.  In Septemeber of 2005 he  married Manhattanville Alumna Lisa Mancini.  Together they have started a photography company, Lisa Quintero Photography: www.lisaquinterophotography.com ...Donna Silverstein has started her second year of PA school which consists of all clinical experience, 10 five week rotations in a variety of medical specialties and settings, such as orthopedics, ER, primary care, and pediatrics.  She is also enjoying being the proud aunt of her two nieces...Dan DiMartino graduated from the NYFD Academy and is serving with the  NYFD company of Bedford St., East New York, Brooklyn...Pat Scanlon,. 2003 recipient of the Howard Bloomquist Award, completed his 2nd season as MVILLE Head Men's Basketball Coach, guiding the Valiants to 19 wins.  He was admitted to the new Master's degree program in Sport Business Management and became engaged to MVILLE alumna Stefanie Tropea.  In the fall, he organized the Manhattanville Men's Basketball 30th Anniversary Dinner held in the West Room which brought back to campus dozens of alumni and friends as well as many, many History alumni.  Prof. Bowling offered a prayer for the departed, Marcellus Miglioranzi, 1998 recipient of the Gerard Thormann Award, & Pat presented a plaque honoring Coach Brian Curtin, & Vic Scipioni presented one honoring Coach Ralph Tedesco.  Program notes of this fantastic event reveal that 4  of MVILLE's all-time leading scorers, & the top 4 all-time leading rebounders are History alumni...Speaking of Vic Scipioni, he organized the very successful First Annual Manhattanville College Golf Classic Tournament, on May 1st, at the Canyon Club in Armonk.  Prof. Bowling & Pat Scanlon, listed as "Special Guests" in Alumni Director John Galgano's generous handling, shared a cart & helped find each other's errant balls as well as Vic's and Eric Gisolfi's, making up the foursome.  This fun event raised over fifty thousand dollars for the Annual Fund...Speaking of John Galgano, his wedding is set for November, 2006 to MVILLE alumna Laura Meade.  John continued his excellent jobs as Alumni Director & Associate General Counsel for the College...Michael Benziger has relocated to Los Angeles after completing a tour of Europe following his graduation with a double major in History & Management.  Mike joined the 1,000 point club during his senior season, joining History alumni Vic Scipioni, John Danielski, & Head Coach Pat Scanlon there.  Mike is also our  tallest BA in History ever, a legit 6' 7".  He will be working for the Benziger Family Winery, which L.B.  was able to visit on June 4th while in San Francisco for the wedding of Stefani Miglioranzi, brother of  Marcellus .
