2006 CHRONICLE of the OLD GUARD, continued.... 

Darwin Shen
, above, didn't let his last few weeks in med school keep him from attending the 2006 History Alumni BBQ; above he shows that he prefers the traditional slogan to the "OLD SCHOOL" moniker of the new year.  Dawrin has resumed his career as a sometime violin concertgiver while prepping for the next step in his medical education...Chris Marker is proceeding with his med. ed., too, doing a residency at New York University Hospital in Manhattan...Joe Torregrossa was spotted in the MVILLE library, having graduated from the U. of Oregon Law School and returned east...Daniela Brunetti-Huneke McKee has started teaching History at the middle school of Portledge School in Locust Valley, L.I.  She also completed her Master's degree at Adelphi University and came up to Purchase for an alumna visit in June of 2006...Tim Dooley completed his first year of teaching History at Kolbe Cathedral High School in Bridgeport, Conn., where he also coached boys' freshman basketball.  He  completed his Master's degree in Education in August...Barbara Schneider Forte, 1999 Recipient of the Howard Bloomquist Award, gave birth to her second daughter, Christina Marie, on Aug. 12, 2005.  She, husband John, and first daughter Noelle are now living in Pleasant Valley.  Barbara is working on special ed. certification @ MVILLE & contemplating further grad. study @ Teachers College, Columbia...Ryan Pettit invited Prof. Bowling to address his basketball camp at Columbia Preparatory School, Upper West Side, Manhattan, on July 29th, 2006, after which they adjourned to V&T's Pizzeria as per usual custom.  Ryan continues to serve as Head Basketball Coach plus Strength & Conditioning Coordinator for the school, which was founded in 1764...Ricardo Ramirez and Sarah Amalia Elias were married in Santo Domingo in April at the Basilica Catedral Metropolitana, Santa Maria de la Encarnacion, reception following at the Santo Domingo Country Club...Sally Wickham Richards, 2001 recipient of the Gerard Thormann Award, became the mother of Joseph William Richards on Jan. 23, 2006.  Matt Richards is the proud father...Michelle Polhamus, 2001 recipient of the Howard Bloomquist Award, isbeginning her second year as  a guidance counselor at Beacon High School, Beacon, N.Y.  Living in town, she enjoys her four-minute commute and in her latest e-mail exhibited an alarming ability to recall stories and jokes told to her by her MVILLE profs way back in the late 20th century.  And we couldn't say it better ourselves:  "I am working hard, and am always encouraging students to pursue degrees in history...after all, it is the BEST liberal arts major around."  Amen, sister!...Nick Napolitano came up to Purchase for lunch with L.B.  on March 7th, bringing a gift of home-made wine from the Napolitano family cellar of Staten Island that rivaled what Mike Benziger's famly makes out in Sonoma County, Cal.  It didn't last long at all.  Nick is working for Merrill Corporation and prepping hard for applying to law school, having scored very well on the LSAT.  He was at Chris Ruggerio's bachelor party in Atlantic City as well as wedding in Purchase along with History alums Joe Conetta &Vinnie Justino among others...

Alex Dubin , in blue cap,  enjoyed his year as a ski bum in Colorado,  and then playing summer league baseball back East.  We hear reliable rumors that he is back in the East, 
Harrison area seeking employment in the sports industry.

Dan Buonomo
with Heather  & Collin Buonomo enjoying the beach.  Dan's career with Sempra Metals continues to take him regularly to China and other places, too, such as London and Chile.  Dan also served as best man for Peter Rotolo on May 20th, thus returning the favor Pete did him a few years back.  Pete married Katie Hunt at the Community Church of East Williston, where they are living.  Prof. Bowling attended along with current History major Amanda Buonomo...Ben Vieni is a bank examiner for New York State and continues to work on his M.B.A. at Baruch, C.U.N.Y.   Ben also reports that Frank Grey is completing a tour of duty in Iraq this fall with the US Army... Jay Chrapala is also slated to play pro hockey, but in Richmond, Va...Dave Montrose passed his qualifying exams at U.Conn. and is now officially a doctoral candidate.  He took Prof. Bowling on a tour of his research facilities in Hartford last fall before braving the elements to watch the Huskies upset South Florida, who didn't like the cold weather at all...John Rahal is now working out of Tarrytown, N.Y....Kelly Vecchione is still teaching history, coaching, working on a degree in ed. admin. at St. John's, & planning her wedding, set for July 21, 2007...Matt Parrott, 1993 recipient of the Howard Bloomquist Award, was named a partner of his law firm,  Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, located on Madison Ave. in midtown Manhattan.  He, Alumni Director John Galgano, & Prof. Bowling have been working on furthering the endowment of the Bloomquist Fund, and met up for lunch in Manhattan in early March for that purpose...Aaron Gauthier made a rare Purchase appearance in the spring.  He is working as an automobile mechanic at the family business up in Massachusetts...Amy Cannaliotto Colon reports that she, husband Joe, & son Julius Joseph are moving back east from California...Tyler Resch, after spending the summer back in Medicine Hat, Alberta, reports that he will be playing professional ice hockey in Germany...Joe & Lindsey Joyce moved back to New York after a year in Florida, and Joe resumed his career at Normua Securities...Jess Rickershauser served as Asst. Field Hockey coach in fall, 2005 and then as Varsity Women's Lacrosse Coach in spring, 2006 for the Valiants, who won 7 games, the most since 2001 & making the final of the Skyline Tournament.  She is student teaching in fall, 2006 & will complete her Master's degree...Dan Manfrates kept the kids in line at Purchase Day Camp in summer, 2006, while continuing to work on his Master's in Physical Education @ MVILLE, as is Alberto Bocus...Liz Talamo received the M.A.T. from MVILLE in spring '06...Alex Tirado is teaching Phys.l Ed. in the Bronx and serving as Asst. Baseball Coach for MVILLE...Courtney Fusz stopped by the 'Ville while in N.Y. on a business trip, selling her jeweled casings for cellphones, etc.; she is back living in St. Louis...Ted Rydesky spent summer '06 in Philadelphia but returned to New York to take a full-time job with Citigroup, where he had interned as a senior.  Ted was President Richard Berman's choice for the President's Award at Commencement.  He & Prof. Bowling met up in L.B.'s native city in the summer, took in the Wyeth Exhibit @ the Phila. Museum of Art, & had lunch in Upper Darby, where at Upper Darby H.S. L.B.'s teaching career began...Jim Binette is Vice President, MBIA Asset Management.  He, Jen Araiza Binette, & their 3 children are living in Katonah, N.Y....Pat Scanlon reports the rumor that Ed Albano, 2003 recipient of the Gregg Reidy Memorial Award, may be relocating his real estate efforts from Fla. back to N.Y.  Ed came up to play in the Gregg Reidy tournament...Brian O'Connor & Jason Lummell are both teaching History in Chappaqua and keeping busy with their young children...Chris Zelles, our first-ever double major in History & Art, has continued his caddying career on Long Island and worked as a photo re-toucher for Victoria's Secret for awhile (reporting,  alas, that it wasn't as good as it sounds)...C. J. Howard, our first-ever double major in History & Communication Studies, is still running the television studio @ MVILLE and also making his own independent movies...Abdullah Farid Siddik, having completed his Master's degree at Cornell University, has returned to Indonesia, living in Jakarta.  He is working for the American Indonesian Chamber of Commerce  and considering various possibilities in the field of finance & fiscal policy, which he studied while in Ithaca...  OLD GUARD CHRONICLE continues, next page.
