**HISTORY AND  VARSITY BASKETBALL
Nobody's exactly sure why, but since 1991, beginning with
STEVE DELUCA '91
and ROBERT KASMIRE '92,
(both honors graduates, Departmental Supplemental
Instructors, and recipients of the Howard Bloomquist Award),
some fifty-five men's varsity basketball student-athletes have
either majored or minored in the world's greatest subject.
Nearly a dozen have served the Department as
supplemental instructors, four have won our top academic awards, and three [Bob Kasmire, Chris Drosopoulos, & Ryan Pettit] have taught summer school for us after graduating.

Pictured above: the 2004 Alumni Basketball game was, as usual, dominated by History guys.  Pictured above are 7 History BAs
(Pat Scanlon (MVILLE Varsity Head Coach), Ed Albano, John Danielski, Prof. Bowling, Tim Dooley, Ryan Pettit, Bob Kasmire) plus History minor Vic Scipioni.

History majors & minors on the 2006-07 team include
JOHN DIBETTA '07, MICHAEL PANELLA '08, BRIAN FINK '08,
JOVAN KANDIC '07, EDUARDO HUEZO '08, BEN SHAPIRO '07,
WILL LO '09, JASON WALSH '09,
and BRENDAN FLYNN '08,
and the Head Coach is PAT SCANLON '03--himself a
BA History [with honors] & the recipient of the
Howard Bloomquist Award for the Best Achievement in
History by a Graduating Senior.

**THE BAT,
symbol of the "authority" of the President of the History Club,
from Cooperstown, N.Y., alleged birthplace of baseball,
given to the Department of History in 2002 by History majors
ALBERTO BOCUS '05 and DAN MANFRATES '05 [Click here]
and a few of their other friends who will be named when they
see the light & make History at least their minor
[they finally have: Paul Kouba '05, Rich Battista '05]
 inscribed with the mysterious slogan,
"Please Don't Fail Us."
