LUCENT TECHNOLOGIES:
BELL LABS GRADUATE RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Purpose:
To
provide women and minority students pursuing a Ph.D. degree in the
fields of science or engineering with financial assistance and an opportunity
to gain research experience in the fields of science, mathematics, and
engineering.
Fields of Study:
Chemistry;
Communications Science; Computer Science; Mathematics; Physics; Statistics;
Engineering
Eligibility:
To qualify, a candidate must:
1)
be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or non-resident here on an F-1 student
visa
2)
be female or a member of a minority group that is currently underrepresented in the
sciences, which includes African-Americans, Native American Indians, and
Hispanics
3)
intend
to pursue a full-time doctoral study in one of the fields of study listed above
4) be
a graduating senior (strongly suggested but not required)
Award:
- Ten fellows will be awarded full tuition to any appropriate,
accredited, non-profit U.S. institution of higher education offering
advanced degrees in science, mathematics, or engineering.
- Annual stipend of $25,000, which can be used for living expenses,
books, and travel to conferences.
- Fellowships will be renewed on a yearly basis for up to four years
of graduate study, subject to participant's satisfactory progress
toward the doctoral degree
- The opportunity to gain firsthand research and development
experience through onsite activities at Lucent Technologies Bell Labs
under the guidance of research scientists and engineers; during
periods of internships at Bell Labs, fellows receive salaries based on
their level of experience and training
