PAUL AND DAISY SOROS
FELLOWSHIPS FOR NEW AMERICANS

Purpose:   

To enable new Americans to achieve leadership in their chosen fields of study.  As defined by the Fellowship Programs, a new American is a student who is either a resident alien, a naturalized U.S. citizen, or the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens.

Fields of Study:

Any professional field of study is acceptable, including, Engineering, Medicine, Law, Social Work, etc.  Also acceptable are scholarly disciplines in the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Fine and Performing Arts.  

Eligibility: 

To qualify, a candidate must:

1)      be a naturalized citizen, or the child of two parents who are both naturalized citizens

2)     intend to continue to regard the U.S. as their principal residence and focus of national identity

3)      have a Bachelor's degree or be in the final year of undergraduate study

4)     must not be older than thirty years of age as of November 1, 2006

5)  demonstrate the relevance of graduate education to long-term career goals and potential in enhancing contributions to society.

Award:  

For each year of Fellowship:
  • Maintenance grant of $20,000 (paid in two installments)
  • A tuition grant equal to one-half the tuition cost of the U.S. graduate program, up to a maximum of $16,000 per Academic Year (paid directly to the institution)

Student may accept awards from other sponsors, but must inform the Director of the Soros Fellowship Program.  Student must obtain permission from Director to work during the period of the Fellowship.
