REFERENCE SOURCES Grove Art Online This comprehensive and authoritative source combines the full text of The Dictionary of Art (1996, 34 volumes) and The Oxford Companion to Western Art (2001). It includes 45,000 articles of varying length with bibliographies and provides coverage of all aspects of the visual arts worldwide. The links to searchable image databases offer over 40,000 art images on museum and gallery web sites around the world. ART INTERNET RESOURCES Art Images for College Teaching http://www.arthist.umn.edu/aict/html/ AICT is intended to disseminate images of art and architectural works in the public domain to all levels of the educational community. The images have been photographed on location by the author, Allan T. Kohl, and include detailed information, including textbook citations. The emphasis is on ancient, medieval, and Renaissance European art and architecture with some examples of post-Renaissance and "non-Western" works. artnet http://www.artnet.com/ Research contemporary artists with artnet's Artists' Works Catalogues library. Research the price of fine art, explore art works for sale internationally, and read up-to-date news and reviews. Use Gallery Network, which is the largest of its kind with over 1,000 galleries in 250 international cities. ArtServe http://www.artserve.org/ The site, containing some 450,000 images, is dedicated to visual material useful for teaching and learning Art History and adjacent areas. The organization is confusing, but the images are wide ranging and worthwhile. CHArt: Computers and the History of Art http://www.chart.ac.uk/ CHArt is a society for people interested in the application of computers to the study of art and design. The site includes papers on the role of computers in the art world. Digital Imaging Project http://www.bluffton.edu/~sullivanm/ Mary Ann Sullivan of Bluffton College has photographed and indexed more than 12,000 images of sculpture and architecture from around the world from pre-historic to post-modern. SILS Art Image Browser http://www.si.umich.edu/Art_History/ Extensive collection with information - Search Form does not function This is a database of images from four collections including the Univ. of Michigan Museum of Art, The Kelsey Museum of Archeology, and a private photograph collection of Los Angeles Chicano murals. Timeline of Art History, Metropolitan Museum of Art http://www.metmuseum.org/toah/splash.htm The Timeline of Art History is a chronological, geographical, and thematic exploration of the entire history of art from around the world, as illustrated especially by the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection. The Museum's staff-the largest team of art experts anywhere in the world-research and write this valuable reference and research tool. Art Teacher's Guide to the Internet http://www.artjunction.org/atgi/ This companion site for Dr. Craig Roland's book, Art Teacher's Guide to the Internet offers additional information, downloadable resources, links, and news. PROFESSIONAL ORGANIAZTIONS American Council for the Arts http://www.artsusa.org/ Americans for the Arts " provides experienced and emerging professionals with programs, ideas and tools that lead to success."
