“Music in the Castle” Featuring Jennifer Kimball and Laura Meade '99

Over 50 alumni and students gathered in the West Room to enjoy the music of Jennifer Kimball and alumna Laura Meade '99. The Manhattanville College Alumni Office presented “Music in the Castle” on Saturday, February 18. This is the first in a series of concerts sponsored by the alumni office.

Jennifer Kimball, folk-pop songstress, major label veteran and four-time Boston Music Award winner adds another chapter to the story with her second solo CD, Oh Hear Us, released January 24 on her own Epoisse records. Kimball is celebrating the release of her new CD with a series of live performances including a special appearance on February 18 at Manhattanville College. The release of Oh Hear Us marks the long-awaited follow up to Kimball’s critically acclaimed 1998 effort Veering from the Wave, which marked her debut as a solo artist after a successful run in the folk pop duo The Story, with musical partner Jonatha Brooke.

Kimball recorded Oh Hear Us in her hometown of Cambridge, MA during the fall of 2003, with longtime friend, band-mate and multi-instrumentalist Duke Levine (Mary Chapin Carpenter, The Story) producing. Throughout the disc Kimball examines the emotional effects of life: birth, death, sorrow, joy and her own musical renaissance. After touring in support of Veering, Kimball experienced the vast ups and downs of life, first losing her mother suddenly to cancer and shortly thereafter becoming a mother herself, experiences that figure prominently in the lyrical content of her CD. With Oh Hear Us she returns with a self-assured confidence and a stunning batch of songs that pick up where Veering left off. For more on Jennifer Kimball, visit www.jenniferkimball.com

Laura Meade graduated from Manhattanville College in 1999 and is a successful singer/songwriter as well as an accomplished actress. Meade was the featured singer and performer in “Tapestry: The Music of Carole King,” at the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts (SCPA) in Smithtown, NY and opened a sold out solo Cabaret show, “Old Songs for a New Year,” at the SCPA. The show included some of Meade’s original compositions including “My Best Defenses” which is available for download on iTunes. In between live performances, Meade is finishing the recording of her debut solo album. Go to www.laurameadeonline.com for more information.
